The reading revolution needs you!

Are you ready to share your Chapter One experience to inspire others?

We love reading volunteers’ posts on social media about your motivations for volunteering with Chapter One and the special moments with your pupils. Every post helps raise awareness of the work we do and could inspire other organisations to get involved! The government's National Year of Reading 2026 recognises that we're facing a literacy crisis and aims to "inspire thousands of community reading champions" and "build a culture where reading is for everyone, everywhere."

As a Chapter One volunteer, you're ahead of the curve - you’re already helping reach children who need reading support the most.

Ready to share your Chapter One experience too? Below are some suggested social media posts for every stage of your volunteering journey - from your first session to celebrating a year of impact! Feel free to personalise these posts with your own experiences, add your company name, or tweak the language to match your voice.

If you are able to record short video testimonial talking about your experience or take a selfie during a reading session then even better!

Getting started

I just signed up as an online reading volunteer with @Chapter One UK! Did you know that the government has dedicated 2026 as the National Year of Reading? I'm getting ahead of the curve by starting now - this academic year I’ll be spending 30 minutes a week reading online with a child who needs that extra support. Research shows the more reading influencers a child has, the more likely they are to become keen independent readers. Time to make a difference!

I'm excited to become a reading influencer through @Chapter One UK's Online Reading Volunteers Programme! I’m also proud that my company is a corporate partner supporting this vital work. Did you know that the government has dedicated 2026 as the National Year of Reading? With only 1 in 3 children aged 8-18 saying they enjoy reading, there's no better time to start making a difference. I can't wait to help build a child's confidence and love of reading!

Early experience posts

Your first session

Just completed my very first reading session with @Chapter One UK and I'm buzzing! My pupil and I read a story together and played some word games. Their enthusiasm was infectious! I can already see why this initiative is so important - 30 minutes can make all the difference to a child's future. Did you know that 2026 has been designated the National Year of Reading? I'm grateful to my company for supporting this initiative - it makes such a difference knowing my employer values this kind of work.

Your first term

I just completed my first term as a @Chapter One UK reading volunteer and I'm already seeing the impact! My pupil's confidence is growing week by week. With 2026 being designated the National Year of Reading, it's incredible how 30 minutes can make such a difference to a child's reading journey.

Meet and Greet

I just got to give a virtual wave to the child that I’m reading with online this year at a @Chapter One UK Meet and Greet event! They were so excited to show me their favourite book. With 2026 being designated the National Year of Reading, I'm thrilled to be a ‘reading influencer’ for a young reader and help them to become inspired and more motivated to read.

Throughout the academic year

Another brilliant @Chapter One UK reading session today! We explored a fantastic story and my pupil read with such enthusiasm. Did you know that 2026 has been designated the National Year of Reading? These weekly 30-minute sessions are honestly the highlight of my week!

My heart melted today when my @Chapter One UK pupil said "This is my favourite part of the week!" Did you know that 2026 has been designated the National Year of Reading? This is exactly why initiatives like this matter - helping children discover the joy of reading. Every child deserves to feel special and supported. Does your company want to make a difference too? Impact and evidence

Did you know that the government has dedicated 2026 as the National Year of Reading? There's good reason - only 1 in 3 children aged 8-18 say they enjoy reading, the lowest in 20 years! Through @Chapter One UK, I'm getting a head start on tackling this as an online reading volunteer. Just 30 minutes a week can make a real difference! I’m very grateful to my company for supporting Chapter One.

Research shows children with more 'reading influencers' are more likely to become confident independent readers. As a @Chapter One UK volunteer, I'm proud to be that additional reading influencer for a child who needs it. Did you know that 2026 has been designated the National Year of Reading? It’s the perfect time to make a difference!

End-of-year reading celebrations

What an incredible year I’ve had reading with my @Chapter One UK pupil! The transformation I’ve witnessed in their reading confidence has been amazing. I'm proud to have helped build momentum in this journey and to have hopefully sparked a lifelong love of reading.

After reading online together weekly since September, I finally met my @Chapter One UK pupil in person today! It was amazing to present them with a certificate of reading success and spend time completing an activity book together. Did you know that 2026 has been designated the National Year of Reading? I'm proud to have helped build momentum in their reading journey and to help build a culture where reading is for everyone, everywhere.
