Chapter One Case Study Collection: Information for Participants
Chapter One conducts interviews with teachers, volunteers and parents (and some children) to evaluate the impact of our programmes. This information applies whether you participate in an interview, focus group, or provide written responses.
Why have I been invited to participate?
You are a teacher, volunteer or parent/carer connected to a child who has participated in one of Chapter One's programmes.
What is the purpose of the interview/focus group?
To understand why pupils were selected for the programme, and the ways in which the programme might have benefited those children.
Do I have to take part?
No. Participation is voluntary.
What will happen in the interview/focus group?
Interviews take place online (usually over Teams) at a time that suits you and last around 20–30 minutes. They cover:
- Teachers only: why you chose specific pupils to participate.
- All participants: children’s experiences on the programme and how it might have helped them.
To maintain confidentiality, please find a quiet place to talk where you won't be overheard. The interview will be audio-recorded unless you tell us you prefer otherwise.
Will what I say be kept confidential?
Yes. Only Chapter One staff conducting the interview will have access to the full recording or transcript. However, with your consent (gathered via a consent form):
- We will use the interview to help us write an impact story which will include both direct and indirect quotes. The impact story (or elements of it) may be used in our annual impact report, marketing materials, or funding applications.
- You can choose whether your name and school/organisation are included or kept anonymous.
- You will have the opportunity to review the final case study before it is published on any of our channels.
- Children will always remain anonymous (we change pupil names to protect them).
What will happen to my data?
Your audio recording will be deleted once transcribed. All other data will be stored securely in electronic form for five years. Please see our Privacy Policy for full details.
