In 2024-25, we brought the joy of reading to 3,388 children across 12 areas of the UK.
We supported children at every stage of their primary reading journey through three programmes — Early Literacy Intervention, Online Reading Volunteers, and Book Clubs — helping them build both the will and the skill to read.
For the first time, we're sharing evaluation results from all three programmes. This year we also developed a new partnership with Impact Advantage to create a detailed model that helps us measure the social impact Chapter One partners deliver.
None of this would have been possible without the incredible community of 2,957 volunteers from 149 corporate partners who gave 2.8 years' worth of reading support to children who need it most.
2024-25 showed that when businesses, schools and volunteers unite, we create lasting change.

Our previous impact reports
2023-24 Impact Report
Our 2023-24 Impact Report was underpinned by our refreshed Theory of Change and our five desired key outcomes for children, showing how regular reading support can spark life-changing progress.
2022-23 Impact Report
In addition to reporting on how our programme has impacted children’s reading confidence, skills and behaviours, the report included a new special section on how Chapter One supported our partners’ social value commitments.
2018-22 Impact Report
Our 2018-22 report went beyond an examination of our work in the previous academic year, retracing our five-year journey supporting children's reading since we launched in the UK in 2018. Note: We changed our name to Chapter One (from Innovations for Learning) in February 2023 and our Online Reading Volunteers Programme was previously known as TutorMate.
Pilot evaluation 2019
In 2019 we commissioned the National Literacy Trust to evaluate the pilot year of our programme since its launch in September 2018. Note: We changed our name to Chapter One (from Innovations for Learning) in February 2023 and our Online Reading Volunteers Programme was previously known as TutorMate.
It all starts with literacy.
