***CAMPAIGN UPDATE***

We're absolutely thrilled to have exceeded our Christmas Challenge fundraising target on the first day of the campaign! Thank you to all of our donors and the Chapter One community for your wonderful support so far! As you know, we are ambitious to reach as many children as we possibly can, so we’ve upped our overall target for this campaign.

We would love to increase our target to raise £20,000 by Tuesday 10 December to give the priceless gift of reading to even more children. Here is an updated social media post:

Did you know that 40% of 11-year-olds facing disadvantage leave primary school struggling to read at the expected level? I’m proud to volunteer with literacy charity @Chapter One UK to try and change this, one child at a time, and this week, there’s a special opportunity to support them!

Chapter One is raising money through their Big Give Christmas Challenge campaign. They've smashed their original £10,000 target, and now they’re aiming to raise £20,000 by Tuesday 10 December to provide more one-to-one reading sessions for children facing disadvantage. 🌟📚⚡

As a volunteer, I've seen firsthand how these sessions transform the lives of young readers. Would you join me in supporting this vital work? Donate here: http://bit.ly/3YUW3A5

Not able to donate? Please help spread the word - and if your organisation would like to partner with Chapter One, I’d be happy to answer any questions!

💰 Support our Big Give Christmas Challenge

We are excited to be taking part in the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge to give the gift of reading to children this festive season. Donations made to Chapter One during the campaign week (3 to 10 December 2024) will be doubled!

One donation, twice the impact.

We have set ourselves the target of raising £10,000 through our first Christmas Challenge, which will be used to help provide children across the UK with one-to-one reading sessions during the 2024-25 school year.

Online donations made to Chapter One during the campaign week up to a total value of £5,000, will be matched with £5,000 in pledged funds. Our pledge funders, who have agreed to support us on the basis of us raising online donations are The EQ Foundation, Clyde & Co, Encore Group, Lewis Silkin, Mishcon de Reya and T.Rowe Price.

Online donations to Chapter One will be made via the Big Give online match funding platform during the campaign week. All donations must be made by credit or debit card, or there is a BACS option for those unable to donate by card and who want to give £500 or more. This video on the Big Give website explains how match funding works.

We’re aiming to raise a total of £10,000 to provide struggling early readers with one-to-one support this December. Our generous supporters have already pledged a fantastic £5,000 to our matching pot: we’re now calling on the Chapter One community to donate to our campaign to unlock these funds and give the gift of literacy to more young children at the critical start of their school journey.

Every week, I spend 30 minutes as an online reading volunteer with Chapter One, supporting a young student with their reading. It's the highlight of my week, seeing their confidence grow with each session. 📚
